Officer Daniel S. Wasson was shot and killed in the line of duty on April 12, 1987. On that date, Officer Wasson was working midnight to 8 AM with his K-9 General, on patrol on the Boston Post Rd. -- U.S. 1. Shortly before 2 AM he observed a vehicle traveling eastbound which appeared to be unregistered. He contacted Headquarters, provided the registration number and indicated he would be stopping the vehicle. A short time later Officer Wasson was found lying alongside the highway with a single gunshot wound in the chest by a motorist. Officer Wasson was pronounced dead at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Shortly after Officer Wasson’s last transmission, Thomas Hoyeson was taken into custody by members of the Bridgeport Police Department and was charged with Officer Wasson’s murder.

He subsequently pled guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
