Officer Sachatello was on his way to provide backup to a brother officer, when his car left the roadway, striking a tree and killing him instantly.

Joseph Neil Sachatello III, “Sach” age 33 was a two and a half year veteran with the Montville Town Police Department. The first officer killed in the line of duty in the 41-year history of the Montville Town Police Department.

Officer Sachatello was working the evening shift on Thursday, January 23, 2003 when a brother officer called for back-up assistance at a possible DUI related one-car collision, where the operator was combative.

At approximately 8:34 p.m. Officer Sachatello’s vehicle was traveling westbound on Gallivan Lane in Uncasville enroute to assist the investigating officer, when his car left the roadway striking a tree. Officer Sachatello died instantly as a result of the motor vehicle accident.
