Officer Farris J. Resha, age 44, died November 2, 1966, as the result of injuries received from an accident that occurred on Halloween night. Officer Resha was on patrol duty riding his motorcycle. While pursuing a speeding motorist who had shut his headlights off, Officer Resha collided with another vehicle making a turn.

An investigation of the accident later resulted in the arrest of a 16 yr. old youth who had been operating the vehicle without headlights.

Officer Resha had been a member of the Winsted Police Department for seventeen years and he was well known throughout the state for his SCUBA expertise and his first aid/rescue skills. He was first aid instructor for the American Red Cross.

In 1965 he received the "Henry Jennings Memorial Award" for outstanding public service in the field of diving. This was an award created in the memory of Hartford Policeman Henry Jennings, also a SCUBA diver, who was killed in the line of duty during a gun battle in 1964.
