Patrolman Frank A. Gwiazdowski was struck by a hit and run driver on October 11th, 1936 while en route to police headquarters. He died from the injuries a few short hours later.

The youthful operator and passengers of the vehicle were apprehended ten minutes after the officer was struck down, a short distance away from the scene, at Boswell Avenue and Hickory Streets.
