Sergeant Frank Thomas Linehan, a thirty year veteran, responded to the Grande Arts Theatre, where a large crowd gathered causing damage to the theatre. Sergeant Linehan collapsed while at the theatre and died.
On November 14, 1950 at 8:45 PM, Sergeant Frank Linehan and other officers were dispatched to the Garde Arts Theatre on a report of a very large crowd attempting to gain entry to the horror show. It was reported the crowd was shattering windows to the building and box office. Sergeant Linehan arrived at the theatre with Officers Goldberg and Pechark where they encountered a woman who had fainted. Officer Pechark provided aid to the woman while Sergeant Linehan and Goldberg went to address the large crowd. Sergeant Linehan had collapsed at the scene and he was taken by ambulance to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital but died while enroute. Sergeant Linehan cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage caused by the stressful circumstances.
