On October 23, 1932 Detective Joseph P. Sullivan and Detective Sergeant Eagen spotted a stolen car on Broadway that was wanted in regards to stolen athletic tickets. Both jumped on the running boards of another car and when the stolen car was stopped by a red light, Detective Sullivan jumped on the left running board of the stolen vehicle. As the car drove up Chapel Street towards Orchard, Sullivan fought with the driver. Near the intersection the stolen car rolled over and pinned Sullivan underneath. He was rushed into the Emergency Room of Grace Hospital at that intersection but he died shortly thereafter.
