Officer Murphy was doing hand traffic when he was struck by a car which failed to heed the officer’s signal, and was pinned against a passing trolley.

On July 23, 1924 Officer Lawrence Murphy was doing hand traffic at the corner of State and Humphrey when he was struck by a car and pinned against a passing trolley. Officer J. Kerrigan witnessed the accident and he stated that the driver of the car failed to heed the officer’s signal.

Officer Murphy was buried in Springfield, Massachusetts on July 24, 1924.
