Officer Gorton, 37 years old and a 12-year veteran of the Norwalk Police Department, was killed while working a traffic assignment at a construction site, when an eighteen-ton dump truck struck him as it was backing.

While working a traffic assignment at a construction site on Richards Avenue, Officer Sherrold Gorton was killed when an eighteen-ton dump truck struck him as it was backing. Officer Gorton, 37 years old at the time of his tragic death, was a twelve-year veteran of the Norwalk, Police Department. Officer Sherrold Gorton was survived by his wife Margaret.
