While responding to a burglar alarm at the West Haven branch of the New Haven Savings Bank, Captain Wilson suffered a fatal heart attack and collapsed on the sidewalk.

West Haven Police Captain Stephen E. Wilson, while responding to a burglar alarm at the West Haven branch of the New Haven Savings Bank on Main Street, suffered a heart attack and collapsed on the sidewalk in front of the West Haven Memorial Building across the street from the bank. It was later determined that burglar alarm proved false. Apparently a bank employee had sounded the alarm accidentally. Wilson and Detective Joseph Figaro responded on foot to the bank that was located less than a block away from the West Haven Police Headquarters. The New Haven Ambulance service responded and Wilson was taken to St. Raphael’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Captain Wilson was on the force since June 11, 1924.
