Detective Hull retired from the Danbury Police Department on December 1, 1986 due to on going pulmonary health issues. Detective Hull died on December 8, 2015 as a direct result of this injury that he sustained in the line of duty in August 1978.

On August 7, 1978 Officer Hull while on patrol was flagged down by a male on Beaver Brook Road at approximately 2:00 PM. This male was bleeding heavily from his right arm. While treating this person he noticed that a nearby residence was engulfed in flames. Officer Hull notified dispatch and requested the fire department and ambulance.

Officer Hull along with the injured resident, attempted to enter the front of the home in order to retrieve a dog when they encountered heavy black smoke.  Officer Hull ran to the rear of the residence to move a vehicle that was in danger of being engulfed by the intense fire.

During Officer Hull’s attempts to enter the home, he ingested heavy black smoke which caused him to cough heavily and created pressure in his chest.  He was treated on the scene and then drove himself to Danbury Hospital where he received additional treatment for smoke inhalation. After being out of work for several days, Office Hull returned to duty.

On June 18, 1979 Officer Hull was promoted to Detective, retiring from the Danbury Police Department on December 1, 1986 due to on going pulmonary health issues.  Detective Hull died on December 8, 2015 as a direct result of this injury that he sustained in the line of duty in August 1978.
